Microencapsulation of Multi-Layered Materials

Microencapsulation is a technique used to trap solid, liquid, gas, or some combination thereof within a micron-scale shell or particle. The capsule can be used to control the release of the encapsulated substance(s) and/or prevent their premature degradation. Such a technique is used particularly in the food and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in dyes, fragrances, adhesives, e-paper, pesticides and herbicides, and self-healing materials.

A variety of techniques may be used to produce microencapsulated particles. Spray Drying is one such technique that Sonaer Nozzles or particles generators, as well as "turn-key" spray-drying systems may be used for. Gelation and polymerization techniques in conjuction with spray particle synthesis or otherwise may be done via Sonaer nozzles combined with dual microfeed (DMF) liquid feeds of two different liquids (such as two polymer precursors that may polycondense, a gel-able polymer and cross-linker, or monomer or oligomer precusor and initiator) or a multiple hypo-needle feed attachment. Spray shaping attachments may be utilized to aide in the drying of microcapsules, contribute gasses to their formation or reaction(s), and/or focus and direct microcapsule precursors to a desired area.

Sonaer has a line of micro feed tubes for controlling the flows of solutions. The tubes are excellent for lower flow rates and our dual micro feed tube is a good choice for microencapsulation or preventing two reactive solutions from contact until it reaches the nozzle tip prior to atomization.
